Either way, the LifeSaver C1 Large Scale Water Purifier offers a reliable, sustainable water purification solution for your home.
The C1 is capable of purifying up to 500,000 litres of harvested rain water or water sourced from rivers, springs, wells or boreholes on just one filter - enough to supply a family for many years. Designed to connect easily to an overhead water storage tank, the only requirement is a pressure of at least 0.2 Bar (2.85 PSI). Whether the pressure is provided by gravity (from an overhead tank) or a small pump, all the user needs do is turn the tap to release a strong flow of safe drinking water. No chemicals, no power, little maintenance and, most importantly, 99.99% bacteria, viruses, cysts and protozoa (parasites) removed with FailSafe protection.

The replaceable filter membranes used inside the C1 are the same as found in all our high performance purifiers, therefore will protect users from viruses, bacteria and protozoa (cysts). The C1 delivers huge volumes of safe drinking water, whilst still being compact and lightweight enough to mount indoors on a counter top, and robust enough to survive outside or in an out-building.
What's more, the FailSafe technology in the filter cartridge ensures that contaminated water never reaches the tap. As the filter approaches end of life the water flow starts to reduce and you know it's time to replace it.
Harvested rain water includes contaminants picked up from the roof - bird droppings, insects, moss and leaves - so is unlikely to include chemicals or heavy metals. Purifying well water for a home is usually a multi-stage process, because well water varies a lot depending on geology, nearby farming or industry, septic systems and ground water.
The ideal purification set up will depend on what contaminants are in the water supply so, ideally, the first thing to do is get your water tested. Most contaminants are invisible and tasteless, so never assume that clear-looking water is safe to drink.
Apart from the microbiological impurities that a C1 will remove, there may be other things in the water that need to be filtered out. Choose a water testing lab approved by the Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) to find out what you are dealing with
Pre-filter your water for sand, sediment, dirt and organic matter. They'll reduce the life of your C1 filter and clog your pipes. Adding a carbon filter to your system will ensure the water looks, tastes and smells great. And add filters for specific contaminants revealed by the tests.
The easiest part. All a C1 needs to purify water is a pressure of 0.2 Bar (2.85 PSI). That can be created by a header tank or water butt sited at least 2m higher than the C1. If that set up won't work for you, you can install a pump.
The LifeSaver C1 relies on pressure to force water through the Ultrafiltration Filter Cartridge. That pressure is most easily achieved using gravity by raising the supply tank to a minimum of 2m above the C1. A tank in the loft will work perfectly, or mount a water butt on a stand in your yard. The higher the tank, the better the water flow.
If your water comes from a well, spring, or other ground-level source, you can either pump it into the raised tank, or skip the tank and add a small pump to drive water. into the filter system. If you rely solely on a pump then you need to be sure your power supply is reliable.
Unlike UV purification which uses electricity, and Reverse Osmosis, which uses power AND generates 2-3 litres of waste water for every litre purified, Ultrafiltration technology requires no additional resources and very little maintenance.

Each C1 can purify up to 500,000 litres of water - enough drinking water for 100 people for four years. If you only use the C1 for drinking water it will last a family considerably longer. If used within a whole house system - so all taps are safe to drink from - it could last as long as three years, based on a family of four using 500 litres a day. It also depends on the levels of contamination, the turbidity of the water and the use of effective pre-filters.
Our ultrafiltration technology acts like a sieve, catching the microbiological contaminants as the water passes through the pores in the membranes. Eventually the pores will become blocked and water will no longer pass through. As your filter approaches end-of-life, water flow will start to reduce and you'll know it's time to replace the filter. Regular cleaning of the C1 filter will remove any large, obvious contaminants - like algae or sediment - and extend the life of the filter.
LifeSaver’s patented Ultrafiltration filters come pre-installed and only need to be removed for replacement or for periodic cleaning. To remove the filter, first isolate the water supply to the system. Use the pressure release valve ring pull (located on the top front most port) to release pressure by pulling the ring pull up. Wait for the rush of air and/or water to stop. Drain the C1 by removing the lower drain plug. Once drained reinsert the drain plug and re-tighten.

To replace the filter reverse these steps taking care to keep the face of the new filter clean. Use an alcohol wipe or sterilising spray to ensure the filter face has not been contaminated.
The LifeSaver C1 will remove sand, sediment, and organic matter but the pores in the membrane will become blocked much sooner. Using a sediment pre-filter will extend the life of the C1 filter.
Activated Carbon filters are designed to improve the taste, clarity and smell of the water. It's not essential for your safety but, depending on the source, without activated carbon your water may be very unpleasant to drink.
If your water test reveals significant chemical or heavy metal content, it will be necessary to remove any that can be harmful after long-term exposure.
Pre-filters are easy to come by online, with a wide range offered on Amazon. It depends on what you need them to remove from the water in your source but we can recommend the following:
Your C1 will benefit from an occasional clean - once every 12 months or so.
The C1 is a very robust unit and will tolerate outdoor conditions very well in warm climates. The filter shouldn't be allowed to freeze so, if you live in a country that sees very cold winters, it should be installed indoors or insulated.
The C1 is supplied complete with a range of quick connectors and adaptors to make it as easy as possible for you get set up. The only other fixings you'll need are four M10 bolts long enough to go through the counter or bench the C1 will sit on to fix it into position.
The C1 measures 92cm end to end and 24cm top to bottom.
