I purchased the Jerry Can Filter as a preparedness item and read that the fitted filter was good for 2 years of storage but once primed, storage was indefinite as long as it had at least 5cm of water left in the Jerry Can. I followed the directions on the video tutorial and primed the filter a month ago with the intention of changing the water every month. To my horror when I changed the water this week I found black biological matter coming out of the Jerry can as I poured out the old water. On removing the filter I found biological growth all over where the filter was below the water. Remember, this has only had clean tap water in it, it’s only been a month and it was stored in a cool dark place.
I have tried phoning their customer service and sales number but only get an answering machine. I have tried sending an email, but as of yet I have not received a reply.
I can also vouch for another review on here that the Jerry can does not sit flat and is not stable on a flat surface.
For an expensive item that is purchased to rely on in an emergency it is not filling me with confidence.

Firstly, I apologise for the delay in getting back to your email; we aim to reply within 72 hours - sorry if it's been longer than that.
Secondly, any water stored in a non-sterile container will develop bacteria growth. The key thing to remember is that the organic matter will never go through the filter to the tap and, as long as water is flowing through, it will have had 99.99% microbiological contaminants removed. My colleague will be in touch to talk about this is more detail.
The Carbon Filter should never be stored damp - you don't say whether that was left in place. It's only the Ultrafiltration Filter that must be stored with moisture.
Fantastic item. Haven't used it yet but it came well packaged and has given me great peace of mind to know that it's in my emergency kit
